Six Common Errors in Eye Protection

No one dares to doubt the importance of our eyes, thus, all sorts of eye protection measures appear. But which one fits us? Which one is right? That is the problem. Now, the following tips will help drive your doubts away.

Six Common Errors in Eye Protection

Six Common Errors in Eye Protection

Error 1: Does watch TV in a short distance or read in dim room would damage our eyes? The answer is “yes”. Reading in dim places or keeping too close to the TV set will easily make our eyes dry. So when read in a close distance, we should maintain 60-100 watts bulb brightness. As we read books and surf the internet, we should avoid the dazzling desk lamp shining our eyes directly, and maintain soft lightning.

In addition, we should remove our eyes every 10 minutes from the computer screen to other distant places.

Error 2: When we feel eye fatigue, just have a good rest, and then everything will be OK. The conclusion is that it is wrong. Just sleeping can not relieve eye fatigue. In order to relax our eyes, the correct way is to gaze at a distant place or look up and down, or move the eyeballs from left to right. Some people may think rely on watching a distant place can help alleviate eye fatigue, actually, that is not enough. The basic rule is to shorten the time you look at close articles, not make the distance of your eyesight long.

Error 3: Nearsighted people are not easy to catch presbyopia when they grow old, so it is nothing for young people to get nearsighted? This kind of thoughts is incorrect. The elderly can not avoid presbyopia whether they get myopia or not. Nearsighted people just can offset part of presbyopia degree.

Question 4: Myopia degrees below 300° belongs to pseudo myopia, there is no need to correct the bad eyesight. That is also wrong. The reason is that pseudo myopia is caused by using eye balls excessively, but after a good rest, eyesight will recover. However, true myopia means eyes axis grows long abnormally. Although myopia degree is below 300°, we must correct the eyesight as well.

Error 5: Whether wearing framed glasses or contact lenses will weaken the eyesight. Some people insist not wearing eyeglasses with the faith “once put on the prescription glasses, you will never take them off”. That is badly wrong. Generally speaking, wearing the proper degree lenses after a check by ophthalmologists will seldom deepen the myopia degrees.

Error 6: Whether sleep in lamp light is likely to cause children’s nearsightedness? American experts think leaving a little lamp on for the sleeping children can help them practice coordinating their eye.

Healthy Lifestyle, Better Vision

Among all the gifts god give us we take eyes for granted. Imagine a world in which you can not appreciate the mysterious smile of Mona Lisa, in which you can not watch your grandchildren play in your back yard. You will definitely agree with 75% North Americans who believe that eyesight is the most important sense we have. Here are some changes you can make about your lifestyle which may help you avoid some eye illnesses or damages which can be prevented.

Quit smoking not only for you lungs but for your eyes. The chemicals from cigarettes can cause inflammation of the conjunctiva, causing your eyes to be irritated, and turning red. Studies also indicate that there might be a connection between smoking and the development of cataracts and eye diseases such as age related macular degeneration.

For less hangovers and better vision, avoid heavy consumption of alcohol. Alcohol affects the liver and reduces the level of an antioxidant called glutathione which can help to protect against eye diseases. Consider attending A.A. meetings if you have such a problem.

Avoid a high fat or high sugar diet since eyes need a lot more oxygen and quality nutrients. A high fat diet reduces the blood flow to the eyes while a high sugar one damages the blood vessels. They are both related to macular degeneration. A healthy diet of a lot of water and green leafy vegetables will be a real feast for the eyes.

Spend less time in front of your Mac-book. Human eyes are not designed to stare at something so close. If you can not cut back any work time, at least follow the following tips

Place your screen 20 to 26 inches away from your eyes and a little bit below eye level.

Use a document holder placed next to your computer screen. It should be close enough so you don’t have to swing your head back and forth or constantly change your eye focus.

Get a chair which you can adjust.

Take micro breaks. Every 3-5 minutes, look up from your computer and focus on something across the room or far away outside the window.
