How to Prevent Your Children from Becoming Near-sighted
Have you ever felt astonished about the rising occurrence rate of myopia in small children? Have you ever thought about why does our children’s vision so rapidly deteriorate at such an early age? If you are a concerned parent, you may want to know the causes of myopia and the proper methods to prevent your children from becoming near-sighted.
The causes of myopia can be divided into two categories: one is due to the hereditary factors and the other is formed because of the unhealthy habits. The latter, of course, is the result of the excessive amount of reading and other close work such as playing computer games and watching TV for too long.
So what can we parents do to help protect our children’s delicate eyes? Firstly, pay attention to your children’s behavior especially when they are young. You should set rules for them to follow in order to help form a good habit. For example, always remember to wash the hands when coming home from outside, and never scratching the eyes. All these can prevent the eyes from getting the contagious eye diseases. What’s more, as a responsible parent, you should be tireless in adjusting children’s sitting position when they are reading and writing. And proper light is needed in the room in order to get rid of the shadows on the desk. Always remember to ask them to take a rest after doing close work for over 40 minutes. In addition, enough nutrition can never be neglected. Scientific researches have already proved that absorbing plenty of antioxidants and minerals can help reducing the risk of developing eye problems. We all know that fresh vegetables and fruits which contain plenty of vitamins and other minerals are indispensible for adults, let alone growing children. However, sweet food like candies, cookies which can raise the cause of myopia, should not be allowed to eat too much.
As concerned parents, we all want to do our best to save our children’s eyes, though they may still be too young to notice the importance of healthy eyes. Take steps from now on, and we can one day receive the gratitude from our children.
